One of my biggest influences in solo bass playing has been Charlie Haden. The way he expressed so much originality and emotional breadth in an unaccompanied setting has been one of my most expansive sources of inspiration. RAMBLER is dedicated to him and his unique style. I caught one performance by Charlie Haden and his Quartet West band in San Francisco, in which he played a solo introduction that transformed the way I saw solo bass. The introduction was to the iconic Ornette Coleman song LONELY WOMAN, one of the landmarks of the “free jazz” movement on the late 50’s.
